Martin Dorey first came to the public’s attention in 2010 when he presented the ten part TV show One Man and his Camper Van on BBC2. Based on his experiences as a keen surfer and VW owner, the series was a hit.
When not surfing or being famous Martin is a well-known writer (and photographer) on VWs, camping, cooking and enjoying life and his many credits include Food Magazine, Coast Magazine, Devon Life, Cornwall Today, Wavelength Magazine, The Surfer’s Path, Corduroy Lines Magazine, Olive Magazine, Lonely Planet Magazine, Benhealth Magazine and The Irish Times.
He is also a regular contributor to Motorhome, Motorcaravan Monthly and Camping Magazine.
In between magazine commissions Martin has also produced two best selling books about camper van living and cooking: The Camper Van Cookbook and the Camper Van Coast.
Martin says that he is not a chef, but just loves to cook and the outdoor lifestyle: “My love of cooking and camping comes from half a lifetime’s worth of experience cooking and sleeping in vans, cars and under canvas whilst on surf trips, but it wasn’t until I began picking and cooking mussels from beaches near my house that I had the idea for my book, The Camper Van Cookbook, and it all started to come together.”
Martin lives in Bude, Cornwall, with his wife Joanne, children Maggie (10) and Charlie (9), a dog of unknown origin called Bob (5) and Dave his VW Type 2 camper van (34).
When he is not writing (or surfing) Martin is a trained Barista, a qualified RNLI Beach Lifeguard and a PADI Drysuit Diver. He also drinks a lot of tea.
